Founded by the king of Magadha, Ajatashatru in 490 BCE, Pataliputra grew under Chandragupta Maurya and Emperor Ashoka into one of the largest metropolises in the ancient world. It was also the birthplace of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
